Crystal RENN Getting THIN??

renn_lg

Your Skinny Scoopers are all for healthy self-improvement but worry about this once plus-sized poster child. Crystal Renn began her modeling career at just 14 years old. She was hand picked by an industry scout, and was quickly informed that she'd need to lose a THIRD of her body weight to make it as a model. Renn did just that, and created a frightening spiral into malnourishment and eating disorders.

renn1Though she was wildly successful as a woefully thin fashion model (picture at left is Renn as a teenager when she starved herself to a size ZERO), the health crisis that resulted in trying to meet the industry standard caused her to reevaluate her life. renn_hungryRenn gained 70 pounds, settled in at a size 12, and reemerged as a plus-sized model. Her message of healthy body image was so well received, she was given a book deal and published the memoir HUNGRY: A Young Model's Story of Appetite, Ambition, and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves.

What a great story, right? Well... that remains to be seen. The latest chapter is this. Crystal Renn appears to be dropping a LOT of weight lately. A publicist for the amazon beauty says she's only dropped to a size 8-10, but her face is looking awfully thin to your Scoopers. Renn says she absolutely has NOT intended to lose weight, but that it's just falling off because she's hiking and doing yoga. If this is all there is to the story, than we say YAAHHOOOOOOO to that! We can't deny however, that small nagging whisper of doubt we keep hearing. With Renn's history of eating disorders and issues, it's our sincere hope she's not battling with an internal struggle to go back to some crazy societal or industry standard.

Renn's message of loving her body at a more normal size resonated with so many women, young and old, and her beauty only improved as her health did. We say hold at that healthy 8 Crystal, even if in the modeling world that technically makes you a woman "without a country"!
