Weight Loss Lowers Risk of Breast Cancer



Every 69 seconds somewhere in the world a woman dies of breast cancer. It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we're all about sharing the latest news for women. According to professor Tony Swerdlow, thousands of cases of breast cancer could be prevented if women exercise more and lose weight.

Swerdlow, head of a generations study of 100,000 women said that changing behavior is likely to have the greatest impact on controlling rising rates of breast cancer. Losing weight, particularly after menopasue reduces women's risk. Experts don't have precise information about how much weight someone would have to lose and at what age, or how much exercise, but any measures women can take are exciting to report.

It's a fact that breast cancer rates are highest in the United States and we have more overweight people than any country in the world. If we can actually lower rates for a leading killer of women by adopting healthier habits, count us in!
