Fake Food To Lose Weight?

fotolia_4656387_xs

According to a Los Angeles Times article this week, researchers in Calgary reported inventing fake food for weight loss. You can skip the gastric bypass surgery. Pop a pill that will make you feel full and lose weight.

The pills are a gelatin capsule filled with biodegradable, bio-compatible materials with expandable absorbent fiber and polymer granules. In the study, four people took the capsules for one month. The participants recorded feeling less hungry and even lost weight while taking the pills.

It stands to reason that if your stomach is full whether it's with water, fiber or expanding materials you're likely to eat less. Sounds a bit like the FullBar concept! We can't deny we dig those cocoa krispy like treats, but expanding pills is more than a little creepy. Reminds us of the pills we put in the bathroom sink as kids and four hours later you'd come back to discover sponge dinosaurs the size of your hand or nasty slimy sea creatures.

Maybe this new company will develop Willy Wonka type capsules. A four-course meal in a pill that actually has no calories. When there's lasagna, garlic bread and cheesecake all in a pill for no calories, we're IN!

Funny you should mention Willy Wonka . I recently read an article that scientists are actually experimenting with nano-technology to create time release 3-course "flavored" gum.

This may be helpful, but don't forget, for those of us who may have emotional eating or binging tendencies a full belly doesn't stop us from gaining the lbs. I think it is great when people realize and recognize the triggers of their overeating and do something to permantly change the behavior. This is a bit scary and dangerous, but then on one end if you aren't dealing with eating issues this could be helpful.
