Skinny Chicken & Sausage Gumbo Print

We are all about one pot meals and this is a spicy number you are sure to love. Here's what you'll need to get this going.

1 medium chopped onion
3 chopped ribs celery
2 peeled and sliced carrots
1 chopped green pepper
1 clove minced garlic
2 cups spicy turkey sausage- sliced
3/4 pound boneless skinless chicken breast in pieces
1 (15) ounce can stewed tomatoes with juice
2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp salt
2 bay leaves
2 TBS flour
a few TBS cold water
1 (10) ounce package sliced okra

Place onion, celery, carrots, green pepper and garlic in slow cooker. Cover vegetables with sausage and chicken then sprinkle with spices. Add tomatoes and broth. Cook on low 8 hours or if you don't have that much time, set on high for 4-5 hours. About an hour before serving make rue in a separate bowl by mixing flour and cold water. Add one ladle of hot liquid from crock pot to flour mixture and stir until blended. Stir rue and okra in gumbo. Cover and cook for an additional 30-45 minutes. Mixture will thicken.
