Lane Bryant Censored

lb_blue_bra

It's not like we are dieing to see any more half naked women on television. But censoring a commercial with plus sized models BUGS us.

We've all seen the commercials with Victoria Secret models parading around in those teeny tiny bras and panties. What's wrong with a little cleavage? Or a lot of cleavage for that matter.

caciquedemibraAccording to Lane Bryant, ABC restricted their airtime by denying it a slot originally promised during Dancing with the Stars. Likewise, Fox required excessive re-edits and rebuffed the commercial three times before allowing it to air during the final 10 minutes of American Idol. But, it appeared only after Lane Bryant threatened to pull their ad buy if it wasn't run.

We LOVE this commercial. Beauty is skin deep and we agree that a smile is the best makeup. But sexy lingerie for real women belongs on television, in magazines, billboards, movies and anywhere else we can see it.

Seriously?!!! This commercial is a lot more "decent" than some of the Victoria's Secret commericals I have seen... The double standard is really disgusting... And society wonders why girls have such an issue with self esteem... Maybe if there were more ads like this...with REAL women...girls (and woman) wouldn't have such a skewd body image... I'm a little miffed after reading this... Thank you for making us aware of this.

I'm all for ads (& tv shows & movies for that matter) reflecting real life by using a wide range of people, body types and sizes. I'm always amazed when I see a foreign film from France or England that EVERY WOMAN doesn't look like they've had a face lift. Gee, some are older than others, some are even tired. Not every wife looks like a trophy.

To me these films show that other countries are more accepting and appreciative of a range of experience, age, and beauty... that appreciation is healthier and it teaches kids from an early age that people are people... women aren't stick figures that all weigh 110-120. I grew up with 110-120 labeled "normal" and, since I wasn't "normal", it led to many years of poor body image, overeating and excess weight.

America, time to get real!
