After slowly gaining, Diane made a sudden change. She lost 150 pounds and has SEVEN kids. Did you hear that? SEVEN!!! Check out her cool and motivating story...
In her own words...
I wasn’t always overweight. In fact, I was an average sized teenager. An average sized teenager who ate lots of fast food, hid M&M’s in the back of my closet, and secretly raided the cookie jar when no one was looking. I headed off to college full of good intentions and bad habits. I was there to get my finance degree, but along the way also gained a bit of weight. Daily dunks into the donut shops, pizzas delivered right to my dorm room, and lack of exercise took its toll on my hips, thighs, and waist. When I married, I wore a size 12, and weighed about 165 pounds. An okay weight for someone tall like myself.
However, marriage brought about even more sedentary ways, and I found myself gaining pound after pound. Nightly restaurant meals, coupled with after dinner snacks of entire gallons of ice cream saw me putting on even more weight. But as bad as all that was, it was nothing compared to getting pregnant with my first child. I gained 75 pounds during her pregnancy, and never looked back.
The year was 1990, and I now weighed 274 pounds. After giving birth to my daughter, instead of losing weight like most new moms, I gained more weight. My second daughter was born in 1993, and my son three years later. I gained more and more weight between pregnancies, until I hit my highest weight of 305 pounds.
Standing on my doctor’s scale that early spring day scared me to death. How much more weight could I possibly gain? Would I hit 325 pounds? 350 pounds or worse? I got in the car, drove home, and committed to make a change. I made a 180 degree turnaround from my previous habits, and started on the path to health and fitness. I began exercising every day, at first with slow walks, but always pushing myself to go farther and faster. I cut back on portions, watched the fat percentage in foods, and learned to enjoy healthy foods. It wasn’t always easy, but I never gave up on myself.
It took me 14 months to lose 150 pounds. I’ve maintained the loss for twelve years now, even with having four more children, moving state to state three times, and working my way through some challenging family issues. Losing weight and getting healthy was the best thing I did for my family, and for myself.
