Amber Lost 165 POUNDS Using TOPS

amber_profile

Amber lost over 165 POUNDS using TOPS. Take Off Pounds Sensibly sounds sensible to us. Read more of her amazing story...

AMBER in her own words...

Looking back at what my life used to be, it seems like someone else's. I wore a tight size 28 jeans and I hated looking in the mirror. What 19 year-old becomes short of breath walking up ten stairs to their room?! Sure, everyone thought that I was okay, because I always said I was fine and put on a fake smile. But deep down, I didn’t really care about myself, and I was nowhere near being happy. Somewhere along the way, I had lost myself.

One night I was talking to my mother and she said, “Now Amber, I don’t want to upset you or anything but Aaron is really concerned about you and your weight.” I thought, “My brother is worried about me?!” We have never really been that close.  She told me about how he asked my mom to do something to get me to lose a little weight, and she told him that she has tried everything but that I had to want to do it. I couldn’t get that out of my head. I knew that I had gained weight - I wasn’t blind, but I didn’t think it was that bad.

On February 21, 2008, after deciding to re-join TOPS, a weight-loss support group I attended when I was younger, I topped the scales at 323.75 pounds. I wanted to cry; I never saw myself as that big. Oh boy, were my eyes opened at that moment. I set small goals for myself along the way. I knew that if I worked hard enough, I could achieve them. While on this journey, I decided to become my TOPS chapter’s Co-Leader to stay motivated and help the other members. Being a part of TOPS keeps me focused on this weight-loss journey. I knew I needed a change and the support of others was key to overcoming what was holding me back - myself.

When I first started working out I used the “Biggest Loser” workout DVDs with trainer Bob Harper. One phrase that he said has stuck with me, which is, "You have to take it one day at a time." Sometimes we try to look at the big picture and it’s overwhelming. It’s like setting ourselves up to fail. I now work out at a 24-hour fitness center with cardio machines, weights, and group classes. Joining the gym and attending the classes makes me accountable to someone besides myself and gets me into the gym at least three times a week. They always ask you why you missed the past week when you are gone.  I don’t want to say, “Because I just didn’t want to come.”

Being active makes me want to eat healthy. Chicken, fish, vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, eggs, and grains are the main things I eat. I’ve learned that you can’t stress too much about what you eat because sometimes that’s the cause of overeating or not eating healthy. You have to treat yourself sometimes; how often is when we have to keep an eye out.

This Saturday, December 12, I am running in my first 5k run. If even a year ago you would have told me I would enjoy running, I would have laughed hysterically. What a difference a year makes. On October 22, 2009 I reached my goal weight of 170 lbs. Since then I have stayed “below goal” and am thinking about even lowering it. It feels like I set out to get healthy and along the way, I have found a new, better version of myself.

Skinny Scoopers are so excited to share this amazing story with you. If you have never heard of TOPS check it out. Please leave Amber a comment to congratulate her incredible accomplishment.

From one of Gina's 'old geezer' KOPS to probably her newest and youngest, CONGRATULATIONS and keep up the great work. I saw you on stage at the last SRD where I was the King "runner=up" and was wondering how you were doing. Gina gave our club here in Coulee Dam updates on you now and then.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! John & I are sooooooo excited & happy 4U!!! It's been GREAT talking & seeing U at TOPS/KOPS functions in WA State. UR amazing! UR such an inspiration, especially 2 younger folks. Praise God! you "Got a Brain Transplant" early on, so U get it that, "It's NOT a diet, It's a Lifestyle Change." Now, as U maintain your goal, you'll have so many more quality yrs.of life ahead.
Remember, take it "One Day at a Time" and also remember to "Plan Ahead." "If U fail to plan, U plan to fail." God's Blessings 2U and have a New Year!!! Love & Prayers, Gail & John Bent

Congratulations on a wonderful weight loss and on making yourself healthier.

I've lost a large amount of weight too, but I wish I'd learned to eat more sensibly when I was your age!

You look AWESOME! What a wonderful accomplishment ... thank you so much for sharing your inspiring story!!

I also reached my goal of 170 lbs in TOPS back in 2000, but unfortunately slipped back into old habits in 2002 when a few major life events happened to me...I ended up leaving TOPS for about 3 yrs, and really did miss the friendship and support. Now a member again since 2009, I have started my journey BACK to goal, have lost 40 lbs since December, and expect to be there once and for ALL by the end of this year!!!

Keep up your great efforts, and remember that no matter what happens in your life, never forget to keep taking care of YOURSELF.....:D Congratulations & all the best, Amber!!!!
